Notice is hereby given that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation ("Petitioner"), has filed a petition in the Orphans' Court Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, No. 1398 DE of 2018, relating to the removal, transportation and reinterment of unidentifiable human remains and associated artifacts discovered during archaeological investigations in a portion of a property at 250 East Montgomery Avenue that extends into the Interstate 95 Girard Avenue Interchange Improvement Project right-of-way ("the Site"). This property was formerly the location of the original burial ground for the First Presbyterian Church in Kensington, believed to be actively used for the interment of the dead between approximately 1816 and 1837. Remains discovered within the Site will be archaeologically exhumed, transported to the Utica College Forensic Anthropology Laboratory in New York for study and analysis, and then returned for reburial in Palmer Cemetery, located in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, or at another suitable public ground in the City.
If anyone has any objections to the granting of the prayer of the Petition, said individuals must either (a) file written objections with the Clerk of the Orphans' Court Division of Philadelphia on or before December 6, 2018, or (b) contact Petitioner's representatives below. If no objections are filed by said date the Court may assume that there are no objections to these actions and may grant the prayer of the Petition.
